Part 2: Say goodbye to 2011 with these three must do’s

In our last post which you can read here if you haven’t yet, we found out that there are three keys to saying goodbye to one year before moving on to the next and we talked about reflecting on our past year, on our achievements, our non-achievements and then deciding on a main theme for you year. So what has 2011 turned out to be for you? My 2011 was all about growth.

Today, let’s move onto the second and final of our 3 must do’s to say goodbye to 2011.

Celebrate

Looking back on our last post here, we are firstly going to consider what we have perceived as our non-achievements or failures and disappointments by acknowledgeing that they do not define you, they are just a reflection of the past year.

You now have a choice to leave these feelings and your conclusions about them in the past or to carry it all forward into the future.

Rather than continuing to react and be a victim of it, you can choose to respond to it and move forward knowing that you have moved forward because even if you feel that you failed or been a disappointment, in truth every experience that you have had in the past year and even further back has lead you to where you are right now, has given you the experience and trials that you needed to get to this place right now, here on the precipice of a brand new year and able to better deal with anything that is coming your way as you step forward into your success.

I know your success is right there. How do I know this? Because you are here, pre-pairing, pre-paving and setting your intentions and when you do this you are guaranteed of success at whatever level you desisre.

Now  spend 10 minutes and list out all the things that you did achieve in 2011.  Write short sentences starting with ‘I’ ie. I did this, I learned this etc.

Consider the following questions when listing your achievements.

Where was I at the beginning of 2011 and where am I now?

What did I do well in this area?

What am I proud of?

How did I challenge myself?

What did I learn?

As human being we have a tendency to only focus on the negative and those things we didn’t achieve. If you were looking at your to do list from a specific day in 2011 and you had 5 things listed there with 4 of them achieved and ticked of and only 1 which you didn’t do, I know your focus will be on the 1 thing that you didn’t do, I want you to make a concerted effort to see the things you did achieve and finish.

Now you’ve completed your list I want you sit and look over it for a few moments. I want you to bask in this evidence that you have moved forward, taken action and achieved something in 2011. Really get into the feeling place of pride and satisfaction for a year well done.

Having done that you have also completed the third step in our 3 must do’s to end out 2011.
